What do you think about on-campus eating options? Are they enough or do we need more? What about you--do you eat on campus?
Do you ever ride the C-Tran shuttle to campus? Would you if the routes are different? And what do you think about transportation to campus in general--e.g. parking?

I rarely eat on campus unless I feel like I must. It would be nice if there were more options, such as non-cafeteria style ones. But perhaps that’s a little too idealistic.
The parking has been a pain in the ass for the most part—especially between noon and 2 p.m.. I want the babies to leave the campus immediately; or, to just hurry up and drop their damn classes already.
From what I have heard, another eating option will be included in one of the buildings currently under construction. I think the Salmon Creek area as a whole needs a much better selection of restaurants.
Parking at WSUV has been tighter this year, but it is still 10 times better than at Clark College and way better than most college campuses.
You see, that first comment, regarding the desire for the "babies" to drop their classes and depart the eden on the hill, is one of the reasons I am so glad to be graduated and away from this campus. This freaking attitude towards younger students; the constant assertion of the superiority of the "nontraditional student" with the more traditional students being viewed as annoyances and intruders in the hallowed halls of WSUV. I spent two years there, and feel entirely qualified to say that, while some younger students were slackers, so were some of the older ones as well. LIFE EXPERIENCE DOES NOT MAKE YOU A GOD, although that certainly was the message one could pick up at WSUV at times. The younger students have a right to be there, just as much a right as the older ones do. And give them the space to slack, or to succeed. This is their time to make mistakes and hell, even to be annoying. Obviously, you had your share of slacking in the past. It's all part of the process! How would you like it if they generalized about you or made you feel unwelcome? Starting college is no less difficult for young people than older students, there is just a different set of challenges to be faced.
If anything, "life experience" should teach that it's important to be inclusive in the academic environment. The "us" and "them" atmosphere on this campus is so non-productive. People need to grow up and stop seeking scapegoats in a vain attempt to empower themselves.
Hey, those "babies" could probably teach you a few things!

Blah, Blah, Blah. The ratio of slackers among the babies is without a doubt much higher, and the annoyance is when my money is being wasted because some little punk decides he wants to hold a conversation about his myspace account during lecture. Sure, their parents are shelling out the same dough I am, doesn't make it right for me to have to put up with them and their giggles from the IM's they get during class.
As far as the food, it's a joke. Sure there is going to be a kitchen in the new "student center" (for catering, not student use), doesn't help the situation on campus. As far as the food in Salmnon Creek, great so I have to spend a 1/2 hour getting some food, lose my parking spot, and add a little pollution to the atmosphere because the cafeteria can't put together a reasonably priced, DECENT meal. Don't get me started on the poor souls who take the bus here. Either way, it's crap, just bring on a company that knows how to do it properly, where's Taco Bell, Carl's Jr, and Mc Donalds when you need them? I don't care who it is, just get somebody that'll allow me to get something QUICKLY so I can concentrate during class, without me having to make the choice of trudging off campus or paying 3 times what I normally would for a soggy burger and cold fries.
The cafeteria is awful and so is the bus service. For goodness sakes, they just need to get a smaller bus and make two trips--it's not like they actually pay their drivers living wages, anyway.
Yeah, and the parking is ridiculous. The on-campus cops are having a field day fining students for the most ridiculous violations. Sorry, but a "No Parking" sign in the grass will make a sleep-deprived student take it literally; and yeah, a $50-$75 fine is a bit much; we're college students!
The last ticket I got was only $10, and they told me that if I had brought it in 2 days earlier, it would only have been $5. I don't know what you're talking about with $50.
I definitely believe they need more choices for food on campus. I heard they just hired a new manager for the cafeteria. Maybe he'll be open for suggestions?
IM's in class and giggling are nothing compared to having someone my father's age raise his hand every five minutes, telling some bizarre story about his being laid off that has nothing to do with "The Tempest," and monopolizing class time so that "babies" with something to say can't get a word in edgewise anyway.
Okay, let's say that the percentage of slackers is higher among the "babies," and let's also concede that they are all attending school with their parents' riches, because hell, we're already generalizing like mad. And as for the older students, let's say that the percentage is much higher for rolling luggage, overcompensation, and bitter regret.
Babies can generalize, too. Have a good semester.
Hey, lay off with the whole "baby" business; I know, it's a VERY hurtful word, but thus is life, okay? Obviously Mike just used it as a joke -- like, ya know, for people with a sense of humor. Point being, that isn't the point.
The point is that the cafeteria food and parking on campus are both awful. The fact that WSUV mindlessly overstuffed our campus with incoming student (what is it, like 600 extra students?) definitely doesn't help the parking problem, which was already bad.
As for the $50 fines, they're rare and ridiculous, but do happen for completely puzzling reasons. You're fortunate that you only got a $10 one.
