Tell us what you think

Hello all,

Hope the summer went well for everyone.

I'd like to start of by ensuring everyone that this blog is free and open. That means that you can say anything you would like here, including rant and rave. That being said, let's try to keep it clean of vulgarity, and full of constructive criticism and discussion.

We would love to hear ALL of your comments about The VanCougar, but this is a place for anything. Feel free to gripe about politics...or your grandmother.

Looking forward to a new year!

Just a quick question, why are people throwing a fit about a service that only 15 people regularly used? And furthurmore why is a staff member advocating civil disobedience for an issue that was already presented to and decided by the voters. With the amount of space that this issue keeps being given in this paper, you would think we actually cared if there was a shuttle to the campus. 2 articles in the last 2 papers and a letter saying to protest WSU NOT using $20,000 for the benefit of 15 people? Hell I'd protest if they did use the money. Tell you what, why don't we find a bikeshop that will give them a discount on a bicycle, or god forbid, we have them actually buy their own cars and become mobile. It's bad enough when we get these people asking us for rides after class every week, and we just want to go home, now we have them asking the whole campus for a ride on their checkbooks. We are adults, it's time we all become self sufficient.

This past summer, I visited my uncle and his husband in Massachusetts. One morning I was alone in the living room and saw some paper by the couch. One magazine was open to a flashy colorful rendition of Ronald McDonald and McFriends. Upon closer examination of the page, I noticed the knife in Ronald’s hands, blood stains on the clown costume and images of dead animals lying around the McPlaypen. The image was the horrific work of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
That’s right. As a result of advertising that more closely resembled “liberal bullsh__t” than real marketing, I managed to glance at advertising that was not meant for human internalization. As if to console me, my uncles justified having the magazine in the house by telling me it promoted culinary diversity.
Advertising plays a huge role not only in how we perceive things, but how we react to them. Sometimes its easy to become so accustomed to the crap they print on paper that we take its nature for granted, and end up eating “liberal bullsh__t”, something no sane person would do. This extends to similar areas. I could apply this to many kinds of printed material: My uncles' gay marriage licence, the Brady Bill, used toilet paper, or the VanCougar.
Learn from my experience and the PETA nonsense. Read the fine print, or you too will be a victim of pointless liberal propaganda.

In response to the comment on the Coug Express; what if that person was you? Not to mention that your generalization about people who ride the bus proves your ignorance...which could be realized right off the bat in the fact that you weren't aware of the second proposition on the ballot. You may want to actually READ the article before you enter into a debate, but then again, I'm expecting you to educate yourself.
It is common form to do a recap of the summer issue in the first fall edition, which explains why C-Tran's story appeared twice. I don't control letters to the editor, I print what I get within reason. By the way, the school's going 4 year if you haven't heard. It might be a good idea to have public transportation for the influx of more students ahead of time.

To the second ranter about PETA. You should come write for the paper. Of course, I disagree with your liberal bullshit (yes, we're big people so you can say it here) analogy. As far as us being liberal...your right...if you're talking about the opinion pages. Feel free to point out SPECIFIC instances of liberal bias in the rest of the paper. I'd be glad to improve in that area if needs be. On another note, I want to make sure you understand how a paper works before you get yourself into trouble sounding naieve in other places: The opinions pages are OPINIONS. The rest of the paper isn't. That's how papers work. I put it together, so I get a chance to spout my 2 cents. Great thing about this country is that you can to.

I'm ashamed to see how quickly The VanCougar has descended into little more than a hate rag for liberal subterfuge. Since I left four months ago, Brian has wasted no time in destorying any and all credibility that I worked to established last year, and I am embarrassed to have my name associated with the paper in any capacity last year.

The first poster had it right - we all ARE adults, and we obviously ALL have the means to become self-sufficient, so let's buy new SUVs with the money we don't have and fill up the gas tanks with the second mortgage we took out on our house to pay for the SUV in the first place!

Okay, so maybe a new car isn't the best idea, but a bike! Yes, why haven't more crazy, tree-hugging liberals thought about that before? So what if they live as far away as Portland and beyond? The bike trip up I-5 and I-205 isn't just safe, it's scenic, too. Even so, a lot of SUVs include bike racks these days - it's a two-in-one wonder solution!

And the second poster got it exactly right! Who needs 'diversity' and 'dissent' anyway? At least Fox News, the Sinclair Group, Sean Hannity, Lars Larson, Michael Savage, Bill O'Reilly, Tucker Carlson, Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Laura, Joe Scarborough and Pat Robertson give me an alternative to all the liberal bullshit I'm confronted with every day. With all the liberal hatred and ignorance, it's a good thing I have truthful alternatives to the liberals running our mainstream media.

The worst "liberal bullsh___t" offender, though, is The VanCougar. I don't care if you can't find the bias in the news and features pages - have you SEEN the opinions pages? I mean, is it any coincidence that their conservative columnist was at the bottom of the page on the summer issue? I THINK NOT!

And even though they SAY they want conservative letters, I know for a fact that they don't print the ones that they don't get! How messed up is that?

They've taken their liberal agenda too far, and our great President George W. Bush got it right when he said, "there ought to be limits to freedom." To you, Mr. Schlosser, I say shame on you! Have you no decency? None at all?

I'll admit it, I don 't know how to respond. Which god? Who's god? Ra? Zeus? Allah?

By the way, great point...bringing god into the equation should bring peace to everyone...it's not like there's been wars over things like that before.
