Alright, I'm starting to think this blog was a bad idea. There has been nothing but sniping between those on both sides of the political spectrum, and right now, that's the last thing we need.

On a larger scale around this campus, the tension between both sides has reached a point that isn't constructive for anybody, regardless of political affiliation. Posters are being torn down, newspapers are being stolen, certain conservatives are receiving hate mail ... this isn't good for ANYBODY.

I have my own views, and I will certainly espouse them as time goes on, but we all need to start being civil about this without making personal attacks or generalizations. I've been guilty of it in the past, but it's time to start showing a little maturity here ... on BOTH sides of the issues.

I mean, what ever happened to good ol' fashioned civilized discourse? I'm doing my part -- the cartoons have been taken down off the window, I'm easing up on the Bush-bashing, and this blog was created to foster some actual dialogue, instead of anonymous whining and complaining.

We've done our part at The VanCougar. Now, it's your turn.

Steve Dail commented, "I suppose what really bothered me about the whole cartoon ordeal was the effect that it had on the campus. It didn’t seem to foster anything positive. Also, it changed our normally professional high quality newspaper from an arena of intellectual discourse into an arena of emotional Jerry Springer type banter" To me, what he is saying is that the cartoons on the wall instilled hatred for groups across campus. To this, I disagree. The cartoons sitting on the walls of the VanCougar office had absolutely nothing to do with the trashing of flyers of both the Inside Out Christian Fellowship or the QueerCougars.

I am disturbed to be part of a campus that has no ability to accept the diversity in the beliefs of my compatriots. I am neither gay or Christian but I do believe that Christians and gays have as much right to convene in a group as I do. To throw away their flyers is to say they have no right to an opinion.

What ever happened to First Amendment in our country? Have the moral conservatives in office made that illegal without my knowledge?

Matt and Brian,

I sincerely appreciate your attempt for continued open forum via this blog. I hope it works out better than the ASWSUV Yahoo group :o) Good luck.
